Abstract

For side-loaded cylindrical sliding joints, neither the "wedge flow" nor the "squeeze flow" in the lubrication gap lead to a sufficient hydrodynamic pressure to avoid the contact between bearing and journal and to prevent the wear permanently. It will be shown a way how this problem can be solved by individual sections of the joint offset. For the design of such joints an accurate simulation of cavitation in the lubricant flow is required. This is possible with the program SIRUIS what is demonstrated in a concrete example. We give an outlook for the further development of this effect.
